Helen Busby, PhD

Helen Busby brings to her ethics advisory work deep experience and a pragmatic approach to the complex ethical challenges of social sciences field research. Careful, rigorous, and grounded, Helen brings a real humanity to her advisory work. Since 2019, I have worked with her on two European Commission-funded projects – and would do so again without hesitation!

As a colleague of Helen’s for 20 years, I know her to be a highly empathetic and diligent researcher. Her recent book – Reframing Qualitative Research Ethics – covers a vast array of topics related to research ethics and confirms her standing in the field. As part of a recent grant application I needed to name an advisor with national and international research ethics expertise – Dr Helen Busby was the obvious choice.

I am extremely happy that Dr. Helen Busby has joined our team as external Ethics Advisor. Her in depth knowledge of ethics related matters will certainly help our project to have the highest ethical standards required by the European Commission. Aside from Helen’s professionalism, she is also a very nice person and always responds quickly when questions arise. Helen is an excellent partner for any organisation dealing with ethics related projects.

​Helen has been a pleasure to work with in our European project. Bringing a deep knowledge of patient-related ethics, Helen collaborated actively with investigators within our research consortium to ensure clinical trial designs and protocols fulfil high ethical standards. Helen’s contributions enabled clinical trials within the project to move forward while her support has been invaluable for meeting the stringent oversight and reporting criteria required by the European Commission.
